Best Vegan Restaurants in London (and Beyond!) That Even Meat-Eaters Will Love

Disclaimer: I am not being paid to promote these restaurants. My opinions and recommendations are my own.

One of my worries when I began my vegan journey was the quality of food. Could I still be a foodie as a vegan? Or would my staple meal be salad with a side of ice? Now, don’t get me wrong, I do love a good old chickpea salad drenched in Encona hot sauce, however there are so many more options than that.

In this article, I’ll aim to highlight some of my favourite vegan eateries in London and other areas, so that you can try them too!

3 Benefits of a Vegan Diet

The Best Vegan Restaurants in London

1. Club Mexicana (Soho)

I love how I discovered Club Mexicana, and this story illustrates how incredibly good their food is. Some friends and I were out on a chilly January day – eating, pub crawling, laughing. We ended up in Kingly Court in Soho and saw a burrito spot. Perfect. We ordered a range of fillings – chicken, beef, and me the obvious vegan option of jackfruit.

As we sat down to eat, cold and hungry, one of the boys said, “Oh, this chicken is a bit different”. Another friend agreed with him but stated that it was really tasty. Meanwhile, his girlfriend was snickering at him. A few bites into my jackfruit burrito, I was convinced they’d given me a pulled beef burrito, and so I asked one of my meat eater friends to taste it. He couldn’t distinguish, so I continued eating hoping for the best. Two of the girls were now laughing, and I couldn’t decipher at what. Only after we had finished eating do they point out the restaurant’s signage, Club Mexicana, Vegan. My meat eater friends loved it, and I was convinced I was eating meat. What more do you need to convince you?

2. Wulf & Lamb (Chelsea, Marylebone)

This is a restaurant I had been meaning to try for the longest time, and it did not disappoint. Wulf & Lamb offers a gastro pub dining experience, and the most delicious vegan food out there. There are vegetable options like you might be used to, however they have also incorporated the most realistic vegan meat that you can imagine. If you’re one of the vegans who originally loved meat, this is the place for you. On my visit, I ordered the aubergine dish but was instantly jealous when my friend’s vegan beef brisket arrived. Oh my. It looked like the most succulent piece of beef you ever would find. And tasted like it too.

3. Mildreds (Multiple Locations)

This restaurant is perfect for brunch or dinner, with friends or as a date night. The first time I went it was evening. The restaurant was lit in a lovely way, romantic and cosy at the same time. We tried a variety of dishes, sharing starters and small plates. The most distinctive dish which I was impressed by was the vegan feta cheese, which came with warm bread. Yum. For brunch, they serve a delicious vegan full English, as well as other options which include fritters, tofu scramble, and smoky beans. I highly recommend!

Aberdeen:

The cafe’s I visited in Aberdeen were the cosiest and sweetest places. I loved the style & they were laid out like little homes with unique sofas and decor.

1. Foodstory

We went for a lovely coffee at Foodstory. The space was cosy, and the staff were so helpful. We were very tempted by the different salads on offer but were being greedy and wanted to experience two cafes.

2. BioCafe

Everything about this cafe was perfect. It was cosy and unique, the staff were super friendly and accommodating, and the food was lovely. We ordered a lovely superfood bowl each, which consisted of a range of different veggies, chickpeas, and flavoursome hummus. We then shared a snickers cafe, made from dates, peanuts, and chocolate. Divine. Safe to say I felt pregnant after that meal.

One of my vegan friends who I spoke to about this article has told me about a lovely restaurant called Mallow which was an old pub converted into restaurant. This will definitely be on my list of places to try!

Mainstream Chains with Stellar Vegan Menus

Some of our more well-known restaurants also have delicious vegan options! We’re lucky that most places offer a few options for vegans, but the restaurants below really do go the extra mile:

  • Chiquito – Known for bold Mexican flavours with vegan-friendly options.
  • Wagamama – Extensive plant-based menu with curries, noodles, and gyoza.
