Recientemente se ha anunciado que Tuvalu va a utilizar el metaverso en un intento desesperado por salvarse.
Un país con un mensaje desesperado
Para combatir la amenaza existencial que supone la aumento del nivel del marla nación insular de Tuvalu, en el Pacífico, pretende construir una réplica metaversa de sí misma. Simon Kofe, ministro de Derecho, Comunicación y Asuntos Exteriores de Tuvalu, lo reveló en un escalofriante discurso digital a los líderes de la COP27.
La creación de un duplicado digital de Tuvalu en el metaverso permitiría reproducir sus impresionantes islas y preservar su rica cultura.

¿Podría el Metaverso ofrecer la Inmortalidad a Tuvalu?
If Tuvalu’s population are compelled to relocate, then the metaverse might allow Tuvalu to “fully function as a sovereign state.”
It is unclear at this time if Kofe’s message is a serious proposal or just a stark reminder that Tuvalu is as the forefront of climate change. Kofe implies that through the metaverse, Tuvalu’s territory, culture and sovereignty could be maintained. It is a grand idea, but whether it is actually feasible remains to be seen.
Esta historia tiene dos caras. Una tiene que ver con una pequeña nación insular del Pacífico amenazada de extinción que intenta utilizar la tecnología para mantener su identidad nacional. La otra es que Tuvalu preferiría evitar las peores consecuencias del cambio climático y mantener su estatus de nación del mundo real. Let us hope that Tuvalu won’t have to rely on the metaverse to preserve its country. Let us hope that the solutions are based in truly tackling climate change, something that all of us must face.
